Kourion Archaeological Site Tour & Cocktail (15:30 - 19:30)

Driving through the vineyards and citrus plantations of Fasouri we will visit the ancient city of Kourion, an impressive Greco-Roman unspoiled site which includes mosaics and a superb amphitheater. The archaeological remains of Kourion - which was one of the island’s most important city-kingdoms in antiquity - are some of the most impressive on the island, and excavations have unearthed many significant finds, which can be viewed at the site.

The magnificent Greco-Roman theatre – the site’s centerpiece – was built in the 2nd century BC and expanded in the 2nd century AD. The theatre has been restored, and is now used for open-air musical and theatrical performances - mainly during the summer months - making it one of the most popular settings for high-caliber cultural events. East of the theatre are the remains of a prominent building, the ‘House of Eustolios’, which was originally a private villa that was turned into a public recreation centre during the Early Christian period. Along with the House of Eustolios, there are further impressive mosaic floors in the ‘House of Achilles’ and the ‘House of the Gladiators’, with the villas named after the scenes depicted on the mosaics. From this beautiful, unspoiled spot perched high on a cliff, ETS’17 attendees will enjoy the dazzling view of the ruins and the sea below, while enjoying a cocktail and light snacks.

Participants interested in spending some relaxing free time at the nearby Kourion beach have the option to skip the archaeological tour. Afterwards, they will return to Kourion to enjoy the cocktail reception. For more information contact the Registration desk.

Busses will depart sharply on 15:30 from the Conference Venue. Comfortable clothing and shoes are recommended.

The first bus will depart at 22:30. Later departure will be available.

Limassol Old Town

Limassol has a bustling and vibrant historical centre, located around its medieval Limassol Castle and the Old Port. The medieval castle is one of the ten castles of Cyprus and it was the site of the royal wedding in the Middle Ages between Richard the Lionheart and Berengaria of Navarre. It was built by the Byzantines around 1000 AD and it now serves as a medieval museum. The museum collection covers the era of 400 – 1870 AD. Nearby is the new Limassol Marina, which offers a variety of options for dining and after-hours entertainment.
